We want to let you know about the new arrangements for the EAPC World Congress 2021, which was due to take place on 19-21 May next year in the beautiful city of Helsinki. As there is still so much uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, and the likelihood that travel restrictions will continue to impact on events in the first half of next year, we have taken the decision to move the congress online again in the Autumn. This was yet another difficult decision for the EAPC board to make, but we are not in a position to take the risk of holding an in-person congress. By moving the event online in the Autumn of 2021, we are able to ensure both the personal safety of you all and also the stability of the EAPC.
Thank you to all of those who submitted proposals for parallel sessions for Helsinki. We will be in touch regarding the outcome in the coming weeks. We apologise for the delay in getting back to you all but hope that you understand the difficulties faced in deciding how to proceed with the congress itself.
Our abstract system for the 2021 congress will open on 1st January 2021 for the 17th EAPC World Congress Online which will now take place in the Autumn of 2021 with live and interactive sessions in October 2021.
We are much more hopeful that we will be able to meet again in person in 2022 and we are currently in discussions with our congress organiser regarding the structure of the congress and a suitable venue where we will be able to run a blended event. In-person for those who wish to attend and online for those who prefer this format.
We also want to assure you that all vouchers issued as part of the cancelled Palermo congress will be valid for any of our next three events.
Thank you once again, we really appreciate your ongoing support of the EAPC and your help in ensuring that we remain a strong voice for palliative care in Europe. We are really looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible and hope that you will be able to join the almost 1,000 delegates registered for the 11th EAPC World Research Congress Online in October 2020. We have received 59 late-breaking abstracts on COVID-19 and the palliative care response and the congress promises to be a really exciting event.
