The European Journal of Palliative Care (EJPC) was established in 1994 to provide an information resource for professionals involved in the provision of palliative care across Europe. The EJPC is the EAPC’s official journal, with a remit to publish material reflecting the latest advances in palliative care across Europe, and provide a communication channel through which all palliative care professionals can share experience and expertise.
Published bimonthly, the EJPC is designed to be of direct and practical relevance to the diverse range of individuals involved in palliative care. The journal aims to help them develop their skills and broaden their knowledge base, by covering all aspects of the care of patients suffering from advanced, incurable disease. Regular features include:
- ‘The case study masterclass’ – Test your skills in patient management via a ‘questions and answers’ format
- ‘Clinical management’ – Clinicians share best practice and latest advances
- ‘Research’ – Promoting research in palliative care
- ‘A day in the life of …’ – Meet the people who make up the palliative care team
- ‘European insight’ – The voice of European palliative care organisations.
As the official journal of the EAPC, the EJPC serves to update members and non-members alike on the key activities, goals and strategic direction of the EAPC. This is mainly done through the ‘EAPC update’ section, which features, for example, official EAPC position papers (‘White Papers’). The journal also gives palliative care professionals a flavour of what is happening in their specialty around the world in its ‘National viewpoint’ section, with an emphasis on developing countries.
The EJPC publishes mainly review articles, but it also welcomes relevant original research papers where appropriate. Contributions are welcomed from every discipline involved in palliative care. If you would like to submit an article, or if you want more information on how to submit, please visit the EJPC website (www.haywardpublishing.co.uk) or send an email to: edit@hayward.co.uk
The EJPC has an experienced editorial team. The Editor is Dr Julia Riley, Head of the Royal Marsden and Royal Brompton Palliative Care Service. She works with two Deputy Editors, Dr Carol Davis, Lead Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust, and Philip Larkin, Professor of Clinical Nursing (Palliative Care) at University College Dublin and EAPC Board member. This core team is supported by an Editorial Advisory Board made up of authoritative voices in palliative care from Europe and beyond.
